Bid farewell to your non-human companion in harmony with nature, their ashes scattered in the San Francisco Bay.
Fair Winds Maritime Memorials offers the San Francisco Bay Area's first sail-powered, unattended pet ash scattering service
We craft a deeply personal, environmentally responsible memorial that reflects the profound love you shared with your beloved companion.
Real sailing with real conditions - we work with wind, weather, and tides to reach your ceremony location.
Our scatterings are 98% sail powered. All beings, humans or otherwise suffer when we stress the system. Sailing uses far less fuel than most alternatives. Sailing also means less noise in the water -- which the whales and dolphins appreciate.
Your ceremony is witnessed and recorded - combining traditional maritime rituals with professional documentation of the sailing conditions and wildlife encountered
Captain's log, wildlife sightings, and professional photo/video. We document your pet's last journey.
The breathtaking San Francisco Bay and the legendary Golden Gate Bridge. The western gate, often symbolic of the afterlife in human cultures.
Eight Bells Naval Funeral Ceremony. Eight bells signifies the end of watch.
Each ceremony is a solemn and respectful tribute performed aboard Yakamoz.
Our skipper and crew set sail to the Golden Gate and choose an appropriate spot for the Ceremony.
With meaningful words we scatter the ashes.

It meant a lot to me and my mother to know that Bowain's ashes were scatted in such a lovely place. You could never have gotten him on a boat otherwise - he was afraid of stairs. Fairwinds was a very touching way to remember and say goodbye to the old guy. We miss you Bowain!

Kruger loved being outside. She would accompany us into the woods when we'd go to gather wood. She loved riding in the car, her face in the wind. We kept her ashes 25 years and now she's one with the sea. Thank you, Fair Winds.

Panzón joined us when he was already an adult. He started showing up in our back yard and we couldn't help but feed him. Panzon was very loving and would follow us room to room. His last voyage will always be with us.

Due to Coast Guard regulations and our current captain's license, we cannot carry passengers on during memorial services they pay for.
However, you can join as volunteer crew for other pets' ceremonies - it's a meaningful way to honor the human-animal bond while learning traditional sailing.

Safety comes first. We'll reschedule for the next available sailing date and keep you updated throughout. San Francisco Bay sailing is weather-dependent, but we sail year-round when conditions are favorable. In fact, winter sailing is better in some ways because the storms blow from the south (despite moving south they spin counterclockwise).
Each pet receives a 15 minute ceremony with respectful silence between services.
For Scatterings in the San Francisco Bay, the entire sailing trip is typically 3-4 hours, depending on conditions.
Most scatterings take place in San Francisco Bay waters, typically near the Golden Gate. You'll receive exact GPS coordinates and a Captain's Log detailing the specific location, weather conditions, and any wildlife we encountered
