Service FAQ
About The Ceremony
Absolutely. We welcome personal words, stories, or messages you'd like included.
The ceremony begins when we heave-to, bringing the vessel to rest upon the waters. The crew is called to order, and the skipper conducts the memorial service, sharing words in honor of your beloved companion. Following the reading, with crew as witness, the ashes are scattered with reverence into the sea. The ceremony concludes with the traditional ringing of the ship's bell eight times, marking the end of watch. This ceremony takes approximately 15 minutes.
Yes, we can finalize stories and other details during our phone conversation or even afterward.
You keep whatever portion you wish to keep before we collect the ashes for the ceremony.
About Timing & Scheduling
We sail approximately once a week, but scheduling varies with conditions and demand. During your confirmation call, we'll set realistic expectations for timing.
Can I request a specific date?
Yes, for an additional $300. While we cannot guarantee sailing on any specific date due to weather and safety considerations, we do our very best to accommodate date requests.
What if weather delays the sailing?
For our standard service, there are no delays - your ceremony happens on the next suitable sailing day. For those who've requested a specific date, safety comes first. If conditions don't allow sailing, we'll work with you to find the next available option.
How will I know when the ceremony has been completed?
We'll contact you after the ceremony is completed at sea to let you know, and you can expect your documentation within 2 weeks.

About Weather and Safety
Yes, winter sailing in San Francisco Bay can actually be better than summer conditions in many ways.
Through experience, we've identified the optimal locations on the boat that avoids backdraft in varying conditions, ensuring the ashes are released respectfully into the water.
